Always follow your Department directives, SOP and controlling case-law judgements. If your SOP is faulty, defective, ambiguous, contradictory, duplicate standing laws or are unnecessarily restrictive for officer safety, then work with your chain of command or training personnel to improve them. Remember, a squad or division "policy" can deep-six you in civil court or administrative review, where higher laws may well have upheld your logical actions taken in the heat of the night.
Remember; "If your department has problems, and you're not helping to solve them, then you may be part of the problem!"
Now, read on, . . .and BE SAFE!!!
